Weekend Beer Buzz: 05/16/2013 American Craft Beer Week Edition


Howdy Peeps!  American Craft Beer Week is here and there’s no time to lose.  No shenanigans.  This week is all about great local breweries making great craft beer.

Thursday, May 16th, 2013

Kick off the weekend over at Falling Rock Tap House.  It’s “Night of the Hops” over there, which starts at 5 PM.


Naturally, this is a tribute to all things Hoppy.  Look for 45 kegs of your favorite IPA’s, Imperial IPA’s, Black IPA’s and so on.  The full list is HERE.  No hop discrimination will be tolerated.  At 6 PM, Falling Rock will participate in a nationwide toast to Craft Beer!  Stop by and raise your glass.  Falling Rock Tap House is located at: 1919 Blake St, Denver, CO 80202.

Dry Dock’s got multiple firkins and new tappings planned for this week.  Here’s the lineup:

Thursday – Firkin of Green Chili Double IPA

Friday – Tapping Nibs Stout (Chocolate Coffee) and Chipotle Nibs Stout

Saturday – Tapping CO Freedom Blonde

Sunday – Firkin of Toasted Coconut Porter

Friday, May 17th, 2013

Strange Brewing will release their first ever bottled beer on Friday.  Bombers of their Dr. Strangelove Barleywine will be available at the brewery for $20 each.


Visit Strange on Friday to grab your bombers of this GABF Medal Winning beer.  Strange Brewing is located at: 1330 S Zuni St. Unit M, Denver, CO 80204.

On Friday night, get back to Falling Rock Tap House for “Night of the Sours”.


Owner Chris Black and his cellar monkey have done a little digging around to find some yummy sour treats to share.  Look for Dry Dock’s Ambassador, The Bruery’s Sour in the Rye, Russian River’s Consecration and MORE.  The puckering begins at 5 PM.  Falling Rock Tap House is located at: 1919 Blake St, Denver, CO 80202.

Down at Rockyard Brewing in Castle Rock, look for “Three Hour Tour” from the Jellyman.  This is a light, ginger ale.

Saturday, May 18th, 2013

Parry’s Pizza will host a Mini Tap Takeover on Saturday, this time with the ever popular, always delicious Russian River Brewing.


A little Blind Pig, a little Supplication and a few other surprises are waiting for you.  With tappings at 11 AM, who’s ready for a little beer for breakfast?!?  This will be held at the Greenwood Village location at: 5970 S Holly St, Greenwood Village, CO 80111.

Falling Rock’s at it again on Saturday, with “Day of the Barrel”.  Don’t they ever sleep???


Stop by the Denver tap house for a “Celebration of Barrel-Aged Beers”.  Take a peek at the tap list HERE.  Tappings begin at noon.  Falling Rock Tap House is located at: 1919 Blake St, Denver, CO 80202.

The Grand Opening of the Renegade Publik House is coming up on Saturday.

For just $12, you’ll be treated to unlimited salad and specialty pizzas.  25 taps will be pouring a variety of great beers from Strange’s Cherry Kriek to Crooked Stave’s Oak Aged Vielle to Stone’s Old Guardian and more.  The party runs from 2 PM – midnight.  The Renegade Publik House is located at: 2043 S University Blvd, Denver, CO 80210.

The second annual Tipsy’s Brew Fest is coming up on Saturday.

More than 40 breweries will be attending the event, which will feature unlimited samples, food trucks and live music.  Some of the breweries attending include Dry Dock, Upslope, Crooked Stave, Alaskan, Stone and Firestone Walker.  Tickets for the event, which runs from noon – 4 PM, can be purchased HERE.  Proceeds will benefit the Dakota Ridge Athletic Foundation.  We attended last year and it was a ton of fun.  Tipsy’s Liquor World is located at: 5869 S Alkire St, Littleton, CO 80127.

The Front Range Rally will be held in Loveland on Saturday at 3 PM.


More than 30 breweries will be attending, along with a variety of food trucks.  The fun runs from 3 – 7 PM.  Get your tickets HERE.  The Front Range Rally will be held at: The Loveland Food Share, 2600 N Lincoln Ave, Loveland, CO.

Elevation Beer Company turns 1 this weekend.  Head down to Poncha Springs and celebrate their First Anniversary.


Look for live music and special tappings throughout the weekend.  There’s even a new Double IPA called 7437, that was brewed to commemorate the occasion.  Bottles will be available at the brewery.  The party runs from noon – 8 PM on both Saturday and Sunday.  Elevation Beer Company is located at: 115 Pahlone Parkway, Poncha Springs, CO 81242.

American Craft Beer Radio will be broadcasting live from CAUTION: Brewing Co. on Saturday at noon for their First Anniversary Tap Room Shindig.


They’ll have 16 brews on tap, along with food trucks, live music and adult big wheel races.  Oh, and beers are just $4!  WooHoo!  CAUTION will also be announcing the location of their 2nd brewery.  Big, big news.  Tune into American Craft Beer Radio from noon – 1 PM or better yet, stop by and partake in the festivities.  Beer + Adult Big Wheel Races = Epicness!  The party begins at 11 AM.  American Craft Beer Radio is on 102.3 FM from noon – 1 PM.  CAUTION: Brewing Co. is located at: 12445 E 39th Ave. Unit 314, Denver, CO 80239.

The Colorado Craft Beer Show will be broadcasting live from Denver’s Strange Brewing on Saturday at noon.


Stop by and raise a pint to Strange, who’ll be celebrating their 3-Year Anniversary!  They’ll also be tapping a Cucumber Belgian Golden on Saturday.  The Colorado Craft Beer Show airs on AM760 from noon – 2 PM every Saturday.  Strange Brewing is located at: 1330 S Zuni St. Unit M, Denver, CO 80204.

River North Brewery will release “Hello, Darkness” at the brewery on Saturday at 1 PM.

Copper Kettle Brewing Company will tap their Cabernet Barrel Saison on Saturday at noon.


Stop by to try this fruity, Belgian Saison, which was aged in a Cabernet Wine Barrel from Colorado’s Creek Side Wineries.  Copper Kettle Brewing Company is located at: 1338 S Valentia St #100, Denver, CO 80247.

Sunday, May 19th, 2013

Sunday is ROY-G-BIV Day at Crooked Stave, which will mark the release of the final beer in the Wild Wild Brett Series.  Yes sir, Wild Wild Brett Violet (WWBV) will make its bottle debut on Sunday at noon.


WWBV was brewwed with pomegranate and lavender and fermented on whole passion fruit.  BOOM!  The beer was later dry-hopped with an experimental hop, before it was painstakingly hand-bottled into 750’s.  Sorry kids, no distribution for WWBV, but attendees will be able to purchase up to 6-bottles at the brewery on Sunday, beginning at noon.

Stick around after the release, because the entire series will be tapped that afternoon, beginning with Wild Wild Brett Rouge at 1 PM!  Here’s the tapping schedule:

Up in Boulder, FATE Brewing plans to tap 11 of their collaboration brews on Sunday.
