Weekend Beer Buzz 08/01/13 National IPA Day Edition

ipa day 2013

Did you score tickets to the Great American Beer Festival?  The Brewers Association seems to have another mess on their hands as Ticketmaster once again had issues handling ticket sales. This time around ticket buyers said their AHA membership numbers weren’t being accepted during the members only pre-sale on Tuesday morning.  Once it was announced that the issue was resolved, tickets to the popular Saturday afternoon, members only session, had already sold out.  There were also reports of hundreds of tickets for sale on Craigslist and eBay for more than double face value.  Good times.

It’s frustrating to know that the BA has a contract to work with Ticketmaster again next year. Sigh…

We’re on the road this week, but have managed to put together a killer list of events for your Weekend Beer Buzz.

Beer Hunting

A few more details came out this week about the upcoming New Belgium and Cigar City Lips of Faith release.  Check out the label below.

nb lips of faith

This one will feature Anaheim and Marash Peppers, Belgian Yeast and will be aged on Spanish cedar.  New Belgium’s also rumored to be planning a collaboration with Belgium’s De Dolle in the 4th Quarter, which might have us even more excited than the Cigar City collab.  Keep your eyes peeled for more details.

And now for you next-level, beer hunter types, Lost Abbey has finally announced a release date for their second batch of Duck Duck Gooze.

la ddg

It’s been more than 3 years since the first and only batch of bad little duckies came out, so this is very welcome news to the nerds.  This one will be released at the brewery over Labor Day Weekend.  Tickets will be sold ahead of time through Brown Paper Tickets, with a 6-bottle limit.

Hey wait, so tickets will be sold ahead of time???  Is anybody reading this?  Crooked Stave, Avery, Anybody?  Selling tickets to pick up beers ahead of time takes the focus off the hours spent in line and makes the entire experience a much more enjoyable one for both the brewery and the consumer.  Just sayin’.  Hmm, anybody interested in a little trip to California in September?

That’s it for this week.  Happy #IPADay and enjoy your weekend.

Cheers!
