Comrade. Denver’s newest brewery officially opened last Saturday and Owner David Lin wants to Welkome you to the Party. Located on the SE side of Denver, near the intersections of Iliff & Quebec, Comrade Brewing sits in a 5,700 square foot space that’s ready to host Denver’s beer-drinking masses. Lin has equipped his new brewery with two bars, 5 roll up garage doors, a beer hall with plenty of tables & chairs and ample parking out front.
As visitors walk through the doors, they’re greeted by the shiny new brewhouse which sits just to the right of the front bar. The 15 BBL system is an American-made beauty, crafted by JV Northwest in Canby, Oregon.
While Lin’s no stranger to brewery life, having worked in the industry in numerous positions over the past 8+ years, he’s hired Marks Lanham to take the reigns of his brewhouse. Lanham, brings more than a decade of professional brewing experience to Comrade and was recently named Small Brewer of the Year at the 2013 Great American Beer Festival.
Comrade had 6 beers pouring during Saturday’s Grand Opening.
The current lineup:
Rank & File
No Tone – American Blonde – 5.9% ABV. Very refreshing and a tad bit fruity, brewed with Mount Hood, Golding and Citra hops.
DEFCON Red – Irish Red – 6.0% ABV. Sweet caramel and lightly roasted, brewed with Chinook, Golding and Cascade hops.
Koffee Kream – Sweet Stout – 4.8% ABV. Brewed with a healthy dose of lactose and coffee from Denver’s Kaladi Coffee Roasters, this baby’s black, sweet and the perfect beer for breakfast.
Superpower – India Pale Ale – 7.9% ABV. A delicious West Coast-style IPA, with citrus, pine and a perfectly balanced level of bitterness. Awesome.
Enhanced Interrogation – International Style Pale Ale – 6.6% ABV. Clean, easy drinking pale ale, brewed with Sorachi Ace, Hull Melon and Citra hops.
Comrade Kirk McHale’s “Crotch Grabber” – Cascadian Dark Ale – 6.6% ABV. The first in a series of Camaraderie collaboration beers, this one was a partnership with Kirk McHale, the reigning Alpha King from Wyoming’s Thai Me Up / Melving Brewing. Dark and roasty meets West Coast-style IPA.
Upcoming beers to watch for include an English Summer Ale, Porter and Imperial Stout.
Right out of the gate, Comrade looks to be a brewery the Brewtally Insane crew will be frequenting quite often. From top-to-bottom, the entire lineup is delicious. The beers are all well crafted, flavorful and extremely hard to put down.
We actually had other plans last Saturday and didn’t think we’d be able to attend the Grand Opening, but after getting a preview and actually sampling the beers early, we knew we had to be there. Plus, we finished off our growlers the night before and desperately needed refills. Yes, the beers are that good, with our personal favorites being the Superpower IPA and Koffee Kream Coffee Milk Stout.
At a time when many local breweries are relying on food trucks to keep customers from going hungry, Comrade’s surrounded by numerous nearby restaurants. Pho Denver, La Cocina de Marco’s and Sonic (who will even deliver on roller skates if you’re paying with cash!) are all located within walking distance of the brewery and happy to serve.
Comrade’s already proving to be a stellar addition to Denver’s beer scene. There’s no quality concerns here Mr. Gatza. Get out to Comrade and check them out for yourself.
